June was a very busy month for us. We had already started in May to go through our questionnaire and get the results. 78 students had handed back their questionnaires and we three of our group had now finished the results. You will get them at the end of this month.
Another important event was the visit to the Paulinenstift. This was a very unusual visit as we brought all our pets with us and together with the seniors we played with them. Some of them even showed some tricks. The seniors were most pleased by Isabella’s cat. She didn’t mind playing with the two mice. She even allowed them to share her food with her.
Our Pets
The seniors had a lot of fun and laughed a lot on this day. Some of them even regretted that they were not allowed to have their own pets in the home. But for at least one day they had fun with the children’s pets and they enjoyed this day a lot.
The weather was nice, it was warm and the sun was shining. We spent the whole afternoon in the park of the Paulinenstift, together with our pets.
… and who says that cats don’t like mice? Here you can see that this is not true as Momo, Isabella’s cat, even allowed them to play on her!

Poland- June 2010
The month of June was the hottest one which encouraged us to do some outdoors activities. A group of our students took the elderly for a walk in our school area. For most of the students June is rather lazy moth because of the hot weather and the coming soon end of the year, so they eagerly spent time talking, laughing and telling stories with the elderly out in the open living.
We also invited grandparents for the ceremony ending school year. As usually some above- average students received certificates and some rewards for special achievements in the field of education and for their efficient work . Grandparents were very proud of their grandchildren.
Latvia- June 2010
In the Midle of June there are graduation parties in all Latvian schools. This event is important for school-leavers, their parents and relatives because most students leave the family and even the city and go to study abroud.
In the afternoon the theatre building was decorated with flowers and the party beggan. Every student get his/her diploma personally. After that important moment they got presents from family members and friends.
This is one of the school events when the grandparents visit the school. They were very touched and recognise that their grandchildren have grown up, but still stay little kids for them.
The most moving moment is, when pupiles say thank you to family for help, support and love they got during the school time.
Turkey- June 2010
This month has probably been the busiest so far. With the long warm summer days we have enjoyed doing a number of activities.
The Year Two students took a trip around the
town visiting grandparents who showed them
some of the old crafts and jobs that used
to take place. They learnt how some of
the jobs got their names. The children
returned to school with lots of chatter
and memories.
Both the Year One and Kindergarten
classes gave end of year concerts for
parents and grandparents. The children
sang, danced and preformed while the
audience enjoyed and applauded.
During the first two weeks of June the art teacher had some of the students draw portraits of their grandparents or a senior citizen. The sketches and drawings were displayed on Friendship Day.
The biggest event of the month was held on 15th June to celebrate ‘Friendship Day’. In the morning grandparents came and helped the students cook biscuits and savouries. Late afternoon the combined choir and folklore group performed before enjoying afternoon tea together. A day to remember!!
The 16th June was a sad day for all
as a senior staff member - Neset Mercan -
he had helped with the project passed away
in his sleep.
On the last day of school we
invited grandparents to
come along and collect their
grandchild’s report card.
The last activity of the month was a piano recital
that took place on a boat on the evening of the
22nd. The children played, the adults
listened and the boat cruised.
Serpil is enjoying the company of her
grandson and daughter who are here
for the duration of the summer.
The long warm days
have allowed us to
gather and play.
Enjoying one another’s
company along the way.
