ATIVITY PLAY

In December our students put on Nativity Play for the school society and the local people. They also invited their grandmothers and grandfathers to the show. According to Christian tradition the Nativity Play recreates the scene of Jesus' Birth, in the stable and tells of how Mary and Joseph were visited by the Shepherds and Wise Men. The parts of Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds and the Wise Men were played by children.

The infant Jesus was played by a real child as well. Students prepared decorations, the manger and all the costumes. In the past live animals including an ox and a donkey and other farm animals were used in the plays. Now it is more common for children to dress up as the animals in costumes or to have animal props.

Pupils involved all people gathered at school in singing songs called carols. All this brought a Christmas atmosphere to our hearts. At the end of the program students gave their grandparents Christmas and New Year cards.
CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR CARDS

The tradition of sending Christmas cards begun long time ago. To maintain it, students from our school prepared Christmas and New Year cards in December. Students were deeply intent on making these colorful, bright cards. They wrote best wishes and then sent the cards to the elderly. Some handmade cards were given to children’s grandmothers and grandfathers during a Christmas meeting organized in our school.

Latvia - December 2009

In cooperation with history teacher Mrs. Aiga Hudobcenoka the students from classes 9a and 9b had to research the history of their own grandparents` life. The project questionnaire made during the meeting in Friedrichhafen has been used, but we added some more questions. The results will be presented in January. At German lessons we spoke about the handicrafts the students were taught by their grandparents and about the amount of generation belonging to one family.

Backing Christmas Cookies at the PAULINENSTIFT

On December 1st last year the home of the senior citizens in Friedrichshafen was filled with laughter and joy. 28 students from the Graf-Soden-Realschule had decided to present the seniors living in the Paulinenstift. The students of the GSR wanted not only to present the cookies to the people but wanted to prepare them together with the seniors.

Especially students of grade 5, assisted by older students, prepared everything and had a lot of fun cooking together with the elderly people. All in all it was very lively and joyful experience for everybody and we are sure to continue this activity next year.

And we are NOT sorry for the noise, the troubles we caused and the activity we created in the usually quiet home as we all enjoyed it very much.

On December 18th a group of students from our school went to the senior citizen’s home and gave a concert there. We sang some songs, read a few poems and finally presented a small Christmas card to all the seniors, made by our students. The seniors were very delighted and we all had a very nice afternoon, bringing a beautiful Christmas atmosphere to their home.

The children brought their warm wishes to inhabitants of the Paulinenstift, presented their handmade Christmas cards which they had prepared before in their art lessons (another activity in November). They also read poems selected before and learned by heart in November. Some of them showed objects related to the contents of their poems. Mrs Best was responsible for the music and the presentation, Mrs Kieble for the organisation of the event in the Paulinenstift and everything was prepared by Inge Eberhardt.
