ACTUALITIES
Turkey - June 2011

Between the dates of 5 – 9 June, 3 teachers and 7 students visited our partner school in Germany. The visit started with a group meeting at the school, then a visit to the local senior home where the children had a joint afternoon tea with the residents and entertained them with dancing and songs.

We were also fortunate to visit many of the local sites: The aquarium in Konstanz, Meersburg Castle and The Old School Museum. Our trip was reported in the local English, and Turkish newspapers. While in Germany an article of the groups visit was also reported in the Südkurier and Schwaebische Zeitung.

“Brainstorm “

On 13th May six students from our school visited the regional Pensioners` and Disabled People Day Care centre and took part in the game “Brainstorm” with senior citizens.

Every team (of 4) prepared 5 questions on different themes for other teams. The most interesting questions were about Love wall in Paris, students` equipment during exams (2 pens, chocolate and water) and museum of hovel in New York. In the end three teams had the same amount of points (we too). The atmosphere was warm and friendly. We decided to continue our games in September 2011.

“A cookery workshop “

On Thursday, 7th of April our pupils had a cookery workshop with Holostova Larisa (she is a leader of the cookery study group in the Pensioners’ and Disabled People Day Care Center). Soon we are going to celebrate Easter holidays, but now is a very significant time for all believers who keep the fast, so it is very important to know what food is allowed to eat this time. She told us how to prepare Lenten fare, what food should eat teenagers to be healthy and good-looking, how to make delicious meals from ordinary products and serve them beautifully. Also pupils had an opportunity to taste some meals made by Holostova Larisa.

OUR IMPRESSIONS OF THE TRIP TO TURKEY

I am very happy as I had the opportunity to take part in this project and go to Turkey. There were four unforgettable days with new, funny people. During this trip we have observed the amazing places, have never seen before. We were lucky to see the traditional Turkish wedding. It is too different from ours. We got the new experience and only good impressions have left, although it was difficult to spend twelve hours in the airport waiting for the plane. But it was worth a lot. Turkey will always be a place you wish to return. And, of course, in future I will take part in school partnership projects with great pleasure.

So, I like it very much. The people in the hosting family were really nice. I also liked the nature of this country and the smiling people, who say “Hello!” to everyone. I have met new friends from Germany, they are cool people and I hope to meet them again somewhere in future. It was too difficult to say goodbye to our German friends.
The most remarkable day for me was the third one, because it was a boat trip. We were relaxing lying on the desk and enjoying the beautiful sights. In Turkey I have learned a stirring Turkish dance. We danced it together with all project participants. It was amazing. Also I was touched by the lemon and orange trees growing everywhere. We could see, pick up and taste the lemons just from the trees. I like it. I hope I will meet my new friends again!

This 4 days long travelling was great. The boring road to Fethya was compensated by the marvellous staying in this town. On this trip I have found new friends from Germany who I liked to communicate with. The best of this trip was the time I spent together with my friends on the boat “Oasis”. I liked the sights I saw, the beauty of blue transparent water and the people who organized this trip perfectly. I liked the way Turkish people live, Turkish architecture and palms that have left in my memory forever. I didn’t enjoy the food I ate but I liked to taste it. It was completely different from ours. I was really sad when I needed to say goodbye to my new friends, but I hope to see them again as we have decided to be in touch on Facebook.

During the project trip I got acquainted with lots of youngsters. And I am really happy to take part in this project. Thanks to project a have enlarged my English vocabulary, so I can communicate with my foreign friends easily. In Turkey I have understood that people could be different. Everyone at school we arrived to met us with smiles. I have realized that Turkish people much more opened than people in Latvia. I also have discovered new peculiarities and abilities in myself that helped me to stand the difficult road to Fethya. During the trip I have become more opened to people, because before this trip the talk with the strangers threw me into confusions and doubts. Speaking about my wishes, of course, I would like to take part in this kind of projects and have contacts with other people as well as to discover the new cultures.

Turkey is a land where dreams have become true. These 6 days days were unforgettable. New views, friends. I have found here the second home, the home where I am awaited fondly. The hosting family has lived up to all my expectations and even more. Warm-hearted smiles and words have made these days sunnier. The project participants were really admirable. So many positive, opened and kind-hearted people I haven’t seen before. That’s why it was too sad to say goodbye, but I hope that contacts we have made won’t disappear, and the fate will join us together. All good things are always finishing, but our memories about the trip to Turkey will stay forever.

Interviews with ex-teachers

The students invited their ex-teachers – seniors to school. The teachers of the German language, Physics, Math and Chemistry told us about their present life. Brigita Rusakova does Sports and travels a lot, Halina Sinavska looks after her grandchildren.

The teachers showed many photos and told a lot of interesting stories representing their life. Ilga was the first who started work with Comenius projects. They miss the school and their students.
